Visit the collection of wartime
memorabilia displays in Lavenham Little Hall, including a display
entitled ‘A Little of the Home Front at Little Hall’.
Justyn Keeble and Mark
Taylor will be providing a Photographic Reconnaissance Interpretation
display, illustrating the importance of reconnaissance in advance of 8th
US Army Air Force missions. This will include many historic artefacts
such as aircraft cameras, stereoscopes and other items of interest.
Justyn and Mark will be in period USAAF uniforms.
James Merriott will be in
attendance, selling his book 'Watercolour Inspirations - Suffolk Summer
2015' and displaying one of his watercolour paintings. James was
evacuated to Suffolk from London during the Second World War. His
paintings are inspired by his wartime childhood in Suffolk and USAAF
John Appleby’s book ‘A Suffolk Summer’ written in 1945 whilst he was in
Lavenham about his wartime experiences in Suffolk. John Appleby was an
engineer with the 487th Bombardment Group, based at RAF
Lavenham and his book was published in 1948.
Little Hall’s display
will include information about the evacuees who came to Lavenham.
Lavenham Little Hall was an Evacuation Centre for children being moved
out of Bethnal Green in London during the Second World War
£4 entry. Proceeds will be split between Little Hall and the charities
which are being supported during the Vintage Weekend.
